From the High-Five to the Galleria: Everything You Need to Know About Moving to Dallas

If you are considering a move to Dallas, you aren’t alone. Over the past several years, Dallas has consistently made the ranks as one of the fastest growing cities in our country. Located in prime territory of North Texas, Dallas offers whatever your heart desires and your hungry stomach craves. Once known for its cowboy hats, western boots and infamous show of the same name, Dallas has grown into a fast-paced, sophisticated, ever-evolving metropolis with endless possibilities. While you may still come across a Stetson or two during a business luncheon, you’ll find Dallas is a thriving city with so much to offer.

What Dallas lacks in natural rolling hills or scenic views, it matches in the concrete mountains of the High Five. The High Five Interchange is a five-level stack of highways, one over the other, where the highest point reaches a staggering 117 feet above the ground. While impressive by nature, these highways should be avoided unless you have a full tank of gas, endless patience, a good snack, an interesting audio book and nowhere to be in a hurry. Our friendly advice is to steer clear between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., as rush hour traffic is not for the weak at heart.

While daunting, the High Five is a necessary infrastructure to navigate the booming economic landscape. Many of the nation’s leading companies have headquarters in Dallas, including:

However, don’t let the list fool you. Dallas is not all button-up suits and stiff collars.  Dallasites like to have a good time and Dallas offers plenty of entertainment options. If sports are your scene, Dallas offers you the legendary Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, Dallas Mavericks, FC Dallas and the Texas Rangers. Choose wisely though, once you have selected a team to follow, you are a covenant member for life. Texans take their sports very seriously.

More of an art lover? Visit the Dallas Museum of Art. Do you need something more family friendly? Grab the kids and go to the Dallas Zoo, the Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Dallas World Aquarium or Perot Museum. Want to groove? Listen to local bands in Deep Ellum. Are you more of a foodie? Check out one of the more than 13,000 restaurants that Dallas has to offer. Is shopping your hobby? Enjoy luxury shopping at The Galleria, North Park Center, Highland Park Village, West Village and The Shops at Park Lane. Do you love a good thrill? Ride the loop-the-loops at Fair Park while trying every possible concoction of fried foods. Need a night to just relax? Listen to a beautiful accompaniment of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Morton H. Myerson Symphony Center. Feeling Philanthropic? There are more than 23,000 nonprofits needing volunteers. If you can imagine it, Dallas can provide it.

Much like the rush hour traffic, the possibilities are endless! For someone relocating to the area, the stream of options can perhaps be overwhelming.
