Moving to Houston? Consider River Oaks, Rice Village and Memorial
With a low cost of living, close communities and sunny skies in every season, Houston is one of the country’s top relocation destinations. Not to mention its impressive presence in the aerospace, technology and medical industries, which consistently draws graduates from some of the country’s most esteemed universities.
If you’re considering a move to Houston, here are three neighborhoods in the Downtown vicinity you should consider for the area’s best amenities and sophisticated living.
River Oaks
Commonly considered Houston’s most “regal” neighborhood, River Oaks is the definition of luxury. River Oaks was the first master-planned community in the Houston area and sits at an ideal location within the 610 Loop.
If you want to “see and be seen,” River Oaks is the place to be. It offers many first-class dining experiences and nightlife throughout a vast collection of hot and new restaurants and several prominent social clubs, including the Briar Club and the River Oaks Country Club.
Throughout the River Oaks neighborhood, you’ll find large oak trees and picturesque thoroughfares. Bordered by the Buffalo Bayou and spotted with beautiful, mature trees, River Oaks is a well-maintained, tree-filled neighborhood. Every street is lined with impeccably maintained yards and elegant shopping centers, making it one of the most desirable communities in Texas.
Rice Village
Rice Village has been one of Houston’s oldest and most-loved shopping destinations for decades. Only a couple minutes outside of Rice University, the Village attracts students, tourists, residents and shopaholics looking for unique boutiques, vibrant stores and prestigious brands.
Since 1938, Rice Village has expanded its appeal and acreage, adding both mom-and-pop shops and designer labels. Now, The Village has an impressive directory of more than 300 retailers, offering everything from Allbirds and Athleta to Banana Republic and Gap.
Though its most known for its shopping center, Rice Village is also a lively residential neighborhood home to nearly 300 people. Its residents enjoy the area’s history, easy commute and an array of amenities. When you’re in the mood to dine out, Rice Village has eateries representing cuisines from around the globe, such as Italian, Mediterranean, Spanish, Chinese, Thai, French and more.
Memorial
Just west of downtown Houston, Memorial is one of the most sought-after communities. With a population of nearly 60,000, Memorial is in Harris County and is one of Texas’ best places to live, as it offers residents an urban, suburban mix of restaurants, bars, nightlife and parks.
Memorial is surrounded by beautiful parks thanks to its proximity to the Buffalo Bayou and Barker Reservoir. Residents can run, hike, bike and walk their dogs at Terry Hershey Park or explore two protected areas at different nature preserves, George Bush Park and Bear Creek Pioneers Park.
Despite being “outside the loop,” Memorial continues to grow over the years as a destination for semi-suburbia residents to experience city life and a great place for those working out of the Energy Corridor to get food and drinks. With quiet subdivisions, excellent public schools and large, spacious homes, Memorial is a great place for families to call home.
